Late afternoon last Friday, the sky started turning ominous towards the west, so I jumped into the car after work and headed to the countryside, looking for the best stormy skies and I wasn’t disappointed. Do you agree? Most of the rain stayed at a distance, so I was mostly free to stand out of the car and use the tripod.
All images were taken with the Fuji X-E2 and the Fujinon XF 10-24mm F4 R OIS lens.
When composing these kinds of images, it generally pays to use a wide angle lens and point the camera slightly upwards. This will make the thunderclouds loom larger and often look like they fan out from the horizon. Having some kind of lines, like with the roads in some of the shots here, leading off into the horizon, will add dynamism and sometimes a sense of impending doom.
